With todays lecture a large gap of knowledge on Midi has been filled with the demonstration on how to get a better and more realistic sound. That has always been i huge problem with Midi, especially with the use of strings, brass and woodwind instruments, as the attack and release ratios, along with the frequencies used did not sound realistic or sync up with the rest of the project. The range was really limited unless a huge amount of money could be spend on good quality plug-ins or on hiring sections of an orchestra, which that for a new comer in this field is not an option. With the use of this technics now, better results can be achieved on getting a better sound when using midi in the projects that will follow.

Being able to import movie clips to this new Logic’s interface in that ease has made me reconsider some views I previously had about Logic in general. After a whole week of hands on and after today’s lecture, I can say that Logics creators have done a great job with this version. Of course and there is always room for improvements but compared to the previous version I have seen a great amount of improvement, which brings me to the point where I can say that it has almost become as great as a software as Pro Tools. I will not hide it, I still believe Pro Tools is the best the industry has to offer but for the price Logic is sold, this is probably the best investment some one new in the field can make.
Scoring Ingmar Bergman’s “Persona” as our first task and especially the introduction of the movie will be quite challenging as the beginning has almost nothing to do with the plot of the rest of the movie. Hence, it will be interesting to try and capture a mood in the music using the right instruments and sound effects that will apply well in the introduction while at the same time blend with the rest of the movie. I have decided to score the first one minute and fifteen seconds of the introduction. The first idea I had is the use of both orchestral instruments and synths along with some sound design in a try to capture the depth of the movie while bringing to surface the abstract, psychedelic mood of the moving image.

As a film student along with CMT studies the first lecture came out to be very promising concerning the prospects of this module and what my expectations are.
Getting hands on and working with Logic 8 will be a new experience as in the previous year we were only supplied with a previous version of the software and from a first look, Logic’s 8 interface went under a huge change amongst with many upgrades in a try to be made more “user” friendly. First impressions are as expected positive. Not sure yet of its capabilities as until now I have been more of a Pro Tools user. I am really open minded and excited on learning new stuff and I hope everything goes well and as planned.

I am really excited of choosing this module in my course because it is a subject i am familiar with and from this i would like to get as much knowledge and experience as i can in addition with what i have already learned until now. After reading the module guide and from what it was said at the 1st lecture i feel confident that a huge area in this field will be covered in order for us to able to get started. I can not wait until we hit deep waters in this vast modu
le as it is a module that has to offer a lot and with some effort from us as individuals great things can be created and achieved. I write with such impatience because i have worked previously on major projects back home in Cyprus at a studio of a friend, that had to do with the sound design of a series filmed in Cyprus and that was headed for Russia. The rush and the adrenaline that goes through your body when you are working on such things, in my opinion is a feeling you can not get in any other kind of fields. As a conclusion i just want to underline how much excited i am and that i am looking forward for whats to come.
